Just trying to understand the usage model.
no, you need the dongle for the mac application to run. You’ll get stuck at the “plugin the dongle” screen otherwise
I see. What’s the role of the dongle for a direct cable connection? Does it do any processing in this scenario?
Will there be an app-only version in future that can be used without the wireless dongle?
The app only version made by this company is ‘Astropad’ https://astropad.com.
There are other app makers that make a similar thing without a dongle.
Its my understanding that the dongle allows the ipad to register as a monitor.
Can I use Astropad exactly like Duet Display? Does it work as a generic remote display or is it only for specific apps?
Take a read of this thread:
So as of right now Duet Display seams like its better as a second monitor system. As I understand it both Astropad and Duet Display require a USB to work. I think Luna Display is intended for Artists who want to work over WIFI.
Astropad alone will only mirror the display of main computer, not as a second display. But from what I understand from watching reviews and things Astropad is better in terms of touch sensitivity for those using the ipad like a drawing tablet.
Duet Display has these resolutions:
- 2048 x 1536
- 1536 x 1152
- 1366 x 1024
- 1112 x 834
- 1024 x 768
Luna Display has these resolutions
- 2732 x 2048
- 2732 x 1536
- 1280 x 720
- 1366 x 1024
